Community Youth Justice Camp

Another successful year for the Community Youth Justice Camp!

Wednesday 15th August 2018 16:57   (Updated: Wednesday 15th August 2018 16:59)

CLIA hosted a 3-day youth camp in the summer of 2018. The camp allowed youth (aged 12-15) to learn how the justice system works in Prince Edward Island and to become familiar with their legal rights and responsibilities. The participants got to enjoy guest speakers, such as lawyers and human rights officers, to tour the police station, and to have the opportunity to participate in a mock trial and sentencing circle.

Things we did:

  • Heard from various guest speakers about the justice system, our laws, and the legal community;
  • Played a game to better understand the barriers people face when accessing justice;
  • Learned about the Indigenous Justice Program and participated in a mock sentencing circle;
  • Played Youth Justody, a trivia game, to learn about the Youth Criminal Justice Act;
  • Toured the police station and Supreme Court; and
  • Prepared for and conducted a mock trial at the courthouse.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Camp!
