As a lawyer on PEI, you can help promote public legal education and support CLIA in its work in a number of ways. The most popular ways are:
Lawyer Referral Service
The Lawyer Referral Service is a network of lawyers providing low cost legal consultations to Islanders. The service is a collaboration between Community Legal Information Association and the Law Society of PEI.
Participating lawyers provide short consultations to answer questions and give information to clients. During the sessions, the lawyer can tell the client if he/she thinks there is a legal problem, what is involved, how long it should take to solve the problem, and about how much it will cost.
Each session only requires a maximum of 45 minutes.
There is no obligation to take on the case and the client is not obligated to hire you.
This service is in high demand. We often hear back from clients who express their gratitude for the service. Clients are often overwhelmed and confused by the legal system. The lawyers who volunteer for the service are having a significant impact on Islanders’ lives.
If your schedule is too busy to accommodate LRS consultations, you have the right to tell a client that you are unavailable for the referral.
However, if you need an extended period of time without referrals, please contact us to put your name on hold, so clients will not be referred to you.
You are allowed to set limits on how many referrals you take. We make every effort to ensure the experience is a positive one.

Board of Directors
At CLIA, we are very lucky to have knowledgeable, engaged board members. Our by-laws stipulate we must have at least three (3) lawyers on our Board. We would love to talk to you about joining our Board. If you are interested, please contact us at email@example.com
