PEI Woman Abuse Protocols
Phase Two

The Development Phase began on September 1, 1999. During this phase, the Coalition brought together working groups in each of Justice, Hospital Emergency and Income Assistance. These working groups included survivors of woman abuse, community organizations such as Transition House Association, Community Legal Information Association and the PEI Association of Newcomers to Canada, policy makers and front line service providers. Over the course of the year, the groups met several times to develop or revise protocols. The Justice Working Group created several sub-groups, each developing their own protocol before bringing it back to the larger group for a victim-centred analysis.

As a result, we have protocols in each of the following areas: As well, preliminary work is being done on a protocol for Crown Prosecutors.

In addition to developing protocols, the Working Groups created strategies for implementation, evaluation and sustainability of the protocols.

Do you want to develop a Woman Abuse Protocol?
Do you need to update your current protocol?

To assist other groups to develop their own protocol for responding to woman abuse, a policy development tool was created and is now available. If you would like to have a copy, please contact Community Legal Information Association at 892-0853 or 1-800-240-9798.
